Counselor supervision is one of my favorite roles. I am part teacher, part mentor, and part coach. All of these come together in my role as supervisor.
My approach to counselor supervision is developmental. Early in the supervision process many counselors, needing to build their skills and confidence, require more direction and guidance from the supervisor.
Later in the process, as the counselor becomes more self-reliant, the supervisor’s role shifts to consultant, then to colleague. I really enjoy coming alongside LPCs in this way as they develop professionally and clinically.
I prefer to work collaboratively with LPCs in group supervision. As counselors support and learn from each other, the whole group benefits. I have a great group of supervisees, representing a wide range of methods, theoretical approaches, and client needs. With such diverse, broad perspectives, everyone gains so much and the counselor supervision is richer. All group sessions are conducted using videoconferencing.
If this sounds like the counselor supervision you are looking for, please contact me. We can set up a time to get acquainted and see if we would work well together.
Ohio CSWMFT Board Counselor Supervision Information
The Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist (CSWMFT) Board provides the following guidance for the counselor supervision required for LPCs.
- General Supervision Rules for Licensure
- LPCC Application Instructions
- LPCC Supervision Experience Documentation
NOTE: The CSWMFT Board requires that in order for an LPC to obtain their LPCC, they must “complete a minimum of 24 months and 3000 hours of post-LPC supervised experience including 150 hours of training supervision with an LPCC-S.” Of the 3000 hours, the CSWMFT board requires that 50% of that time (1500 hours) must be spent providing clinical counseling services.
This means that an LPC must receive, at minimum, one hour of counselor supervision for every ten hours of clinical counseling they provide.
