Healing from the Past

The Challenging Journey of Healing from the Past

Grandson's image of tangled roads

Many of us arrive in adulthood carrying wounds from childhood.  Whether these are major or minor, whether they were intentional wounds or not, they affect how we see and interact with the world around us.  Counseling can empower you to navigate your journey away from a past that prevents you from living a full, free life.

If you have experienced developmental trauma, it has colored your perspective of the world and your present interactions and relationships. Children observe the world and the interactions around them.  They make assumptions, draw conclusions, and develop belief systems that guide them as adults.  If these beliefs are based on trauma, you will see your world through a trauma lens, and even as an adult, you may be stuck in your emotions and unable to function effectively.

My preschool grandson drew the picture above and told me it is a road. Then he asked me to add cars.  This is sometimes what the trauma-brain feels like.  Maybe childhood abuse or other trauma has you stuck in unhealthy patterns and you can’t seem to find the exit ramp.  If you have experienced trauma, this might feel like your life path!

Counseling can empower you to make the journey of healing from the past that is holding you back so that you can move into a brighter, happier future.
